When Detective Perry Antelope and her partner Sophia are called to investigate the disappearance of a Women’s Relay jockey, they discover the case is not a random kidnapping. They quickly connect her disappearance to a series of murders related to the horse races. Things heat up as the perp is one step ahead, and Perry finds herself and her family in the killer’s crosshairs.
The clues are twisted (and intentionally confusing!) and point to both a human trafficking ring and an insidious plot involving tribal land allotment. With her marriage at stake and her own life in danger, Perry navigates the complexities of the tribal justice system, in a desperate effort to crack the case before time runs out and the murderous abductor carries out their sinister plans.
Devon Mihesuah is the Cora Lee Beers Price Professor in the Hall Center for Humanities at the University of Kansas as well as an enrolled citizen of the Choctaw Nation. She is the second Native woman to receive a chaired professorship and also serves on the Board of Directors of the Lawrence Memorial Hospital Foundation and the Scholars Advisory Panel of the National Women’s History Museum. She was the first female athlete to win an athletic scholarship under Title IX at the D1 NCAA institution TCU.
