Éditions Imago — 14 x 22 — 248 pages

Let's step into a galaxy of fire and light.

Because red hair is far more than a color — it’s a force.

You cannot not see it. The redhead phenomenon is mesmerizing, mysterious, endlessly inspiring, and absolutely inexhaustible.

A multidisciplinary exploration of red hair — not merely as a physical trait, but as a cultural, symbolic, and mythical phenomenon. Moving from antiquity to modern times, it reveals how redheads have been celebrated, feared, desired, and misunderstood.

A Story Never Told Before

The Red Enigma

Through ancient ambivalences, biblical figures, legendary monsters, animals, metals, and the elemental forces of fire, the narrative uncovers the deep associations and striking contradictions tied to red hair.

Drawing on medical theories, literature, iconography, and history, Ueltschi shows how rousseur has served as a mark of otherness, fascination, and power.

In the end, the book portrays red hair as a luminous, Promethean spark — a sign that has shaped imaginations across centuries.
