YES!: My Improbable Journey to the Main Event of WrestleMania
YES! is Daniel Bryan’s new memoir about his life and journey from unknown to wrestling rock star status. Bryan is the WWE’s latest “hit” wrestler known for inciting the YES! chant and movement
One of WWE’s most unlikely champions of all time and also one of its most popular, Bryan has proved to the world and to all of WWE that looks can be deceiving. Just ask anyone who’s ever underestimated him . . . right before he went out and whipped the WWE universe into a frenzy.
This is Bryan’s behind-the-scenes story told for the first time ever by the “YES!” Man himself—from his beginnings as a child wanting to wrestle to his ten years circling the globe on the independent circuit and his remarkable climb to the upper ranks of WWE.
As the biggest week of his life unfolds, Aberdeen, Washington’s bearded son reflects in full detail on his incredible path to the top and gives his take on the events that have shaped him. With his Bryan-ized blend of modesty and surprising candor, Daniel pulls no punches (or martial arts kicks) as he reveals his true thoughts on his evolution as a performer, his various roles in WWE versus the independent years, life on the road, at home, and much more.
And of course, get the untold story surrounding the “YES!” chant that evolved to full-fledged movement, sky-rocketing his career. This book chronicles all the hard work, values, influences, unique life choices, and more, leading to his watershed week at WrestleMania 30. You won’t want to miss it. Yes! We’re sure about this.
Daniel Bryan is a WWE Superstar, WWE World Heavyweight Champion, four-time world champion, 2013 Slammy Award Superstar of the Year, and one-time World Heavyweight Champion. Bryan is well-known for his signature offensive style, a mix of Japanese and American moves including the YES! Lock named after his popular WWE YES Movement. Bryan is married to Brie Bella of The Total Divas fame. They live in Phoenix, AZ.
Yes! debuted on the New York Times Bestseller List at #18 for the week of August 9th 2015!
Praise for Daniel Bryan:
“I knew at first glance what a talented young man he was...His work ethic, his integrity, his dedication, all of that stuff was all phenomenal.” —Shawn Michaels
“Daniel is the crossover of so many of those factors that make a superstar... He’s got charisma. He’s got personality. He’s different...There’s a truth to what he says.” —Triple H
“The crazy thing about Bryan making it as far as he has is that even his biggest fans never expected him to get as far as he did...nobody expected Bryan to be a WrestleMania main-eventer, much less the figure the show is built around.” —BleacherReport.com
Library Journal Review:
Bryan is not your average professional wrestler. He stands less than six feet tall and weighs just over 200 pounds. However, he has used his easygoing personality to gain great success in wrestling’s biggest promotion: World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). Bryan’s book details his life beginning with his childhood in Washington State and his teenage years, when he developed an interest in learning how to wrestle professionally. In a conversational style, Bryan intersperses his background with chapters relating to the week before his main event at WrestleMania 30 in 2014, where he won the WWE World Heavyweight Championship by defeating Triple H, Batista, and Randy Orton. Bryan is the leader of the “YES!” movement, his signature chant when entering the arena. In 2014, Bryan married fellow WWE star Brie Bella and, as of this writing, is the WWE Intercontinental Champion but has also been sidelined with various injuries.
VERDICT Bryan’s voice is forthright and comical, making this a fun read. The flip-book-style animation in the lower corner of each page is a nice touch for his admirers. Fans of WWE superstars such as Brett Michaels, Triple H, and especially Mankind (aka Mick Foley) will enjoy this entertaining read.
